Ottawa, ON—Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak/Women of the Métis Nation (LFMO) stand in unity withthe women and children of Wet’suwet’en and that their right to peaceful protest is respected.
Speaking to the news that three women from Wet’suwet’en were arrested while conducting ceremony on their lands, Melanie Omeniho, President of LFMO states “Women are the guardians of Mother Earth and the waters that flow through and around them. Criminalizing women who stand in protest to assure that the land is protected for future generations further marginalizes Indigenous women”. This pipeline is slated to go through a healing centre that the Wet’suwet’en Matriarchs are trying to protect.
